The Metis Solar Orbiter was launched into space took place on February 10, 2020

The space mission is completely dedicated to the study of the Sun and its heliosphere and for the first time still unexplored areas of the solar system such as the solar poles and the circumsolar space will be observed. Solar Orbiter is the first mission of ESA's Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 science program.

The Metis experiment is an international collaboration led by the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) and funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), involving numerous Italian universities and research institutes around the world.

OPTEC has designed, manufactured, integrated and tested the Polarimeter Optical Unit of METIS experiments.
