Argomoon was launched aboard the US Space Launch System (SLS) during its first mission (Artemis 1) which took place on December 11th 2022.

The satellite is of the 6U CubeSat type, it has dimensions of 20×30×10 cm and a mass of 14 kg.

ArgoMoon's goal is to provide NASA with meaningful imagery confirming the successful operation of the SLS, which will be broadcast-free when the CubeSats are released. It will also be an opportunity to test nanotechnology in deep space.

OPTEC has designed, manufactured, integrated and tested the two optical payloads for the mission. A wide-angle tracking/navigation lens and a 400mm focal length telescope with focuser mechanism, able to operate at diffraction limited resolution from 50 meters to infinity in order to accomplish the tasks of the mission.
